A woman died in hospital after being admitted with significant injuries
Police are investigating a possible homicide in the northwest Calgary community of Varsity.
At approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday, police said they were notified that a woman had been admitted to hospital earlier in the day with "significant injuries that were suspicious in nature."
The woman died in hospital at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The Calgary police homicide unit was brought in to investigate.
Police said a home in the 3500 block of 49th Street N.W., located a few blocks from Market Mall, is currently being held, pending the outcome of the autopsy that is set for Thursday.
A neighbour in the building said police have been at the Cedar Gardens condo complex investigating since Tuesday night.
"It's shocking because it's generally quiet and it's a nice neighbourhood, and we don't hear about that kind of stuff," said Therese Carter-Edwards.
Police said as it's early in the investigation, no information is available at this time.
