To celebrate the 2018 Juno Awards, CBC Music has invited some of today's hottest Canadian acts to cover a past winner in the single of the year category. So far Ralph, William Prince, Mappe Of and James Barker Band have chosen their favourite winning song for a session in our studio.
When Donovan Woods arrived to play his Juno 365 session, he chose "Ironic" from Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill, song of the year at the 1997 Junos.
"My sister was into Alanis Morissette in a big way, so I heard it all like crazy," recalls Woods. "She was just kind of like a rocker. She was subversive."
"When I went back to learn how to play it, I realized I already knew how to play it, and when I went to look for the lyrics I realized I already knew all the lyrics," he reflects. "'Cause who doesn't know this song?"
Enjoy Woods' cover of "Ironic," and wherever you are in the world on March 25, you can watch the Juno Awards live from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver at cbcmusic.ca/junos(external link).
