With over 3.8 million votes cast by readers, Goodreads has announced the winners of their 2017 Choice Awards, which include poet Rupi Kaur for her collection The Sun and Her Flowers and YouTuber Lilly Singh for her debut book How to Be a Bawse.

Goodreads is a free online community where book lovers can rate books they've read, write reviews and converse with other members. Each year, Goodreads hosts several rounds of voting with its members to find the most popular books of the year across 20 genres.

Kaur, a perennial name on bestseller lists, is originally from Brampton, Ont. Like her first collection milk and honey, The Sun and Her Flowers deals in themes of love, heartbreak, trauma and femininity. She won the poetry category with 35,856 votes.

Singh, who rocketed to success with her YouTube channel IISuperwomanII, won the nonfiction category for her debut book How to Be a Bawse. In the book, the Scarborough, Ont., raised performer details the secrets behind becoming one of YouTube's biggest stars. She won the nonfiction category with 25,891 votes.

The fiction category was won by American author Celeste Ng for Little Fires Everywhere with 39,077 votes. In the novel, the life of a mother in a sleepy Cleveland suburb is upended by her charismatic and mysterious tenants, a mother and daughter named Mia and Pearl.

Angie Thomas' breakout debut The Hate U Give won in two categories: young adult fiction and debut Goodreads author. A New York Times bestseller, the novel addresses police brutality and racism from the perspective of a young black girl named Starr. Between both categories, Thomas received over 100,000 votes.

Other winners include Hillary Clinton's election memoir What Happened, Paula Hawkins' sophomore thriller Into the Water, J.K. Rowling's debut screenplay Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Gilmore Girls actress Lauren Graham's memoir Talking As Fast as I Can, Andy Weir's sci-fi novel Artemis, Stephen and Owen King's horror novel Sleeping Beauties and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson's book Astrophysics for People in a Hurry.
