Labour Day roundup in Calgary: What's open, what's not

Wondering how the holiday Monday will affect City of Calgary services? Here's what you need to know.

Transportation

Calgary Transit will be operating a Sunday service level on Labour Day, with fall service changes(external link) coming into effect on Monday morning. Calgary Transit recommend checking the schedules page(external link) to make it to your destination on time.

Street parking is free on Monday and holiday rates will be in effect at select Calgary Parking Authority(external link) surface lots and parkades.

Some roads will be closed for the Calgary Pride Parade on Sunday. Visit the city's special event road closures page(external link) for updates to help avoid delays.

What's open?

  • Village Square Leisure Centre is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with regular admission.
  • Both the Acadia Aquatic Centre and Sir Winston Churchill Aquatic & Recreation Centre have free swims from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Most wading pools, spray parks and outdoor pools(external link) are open.
  • If golfing is your passion, all eight city-owned golf courses are open. Click here(external link) to book a tee time
  • Traffic on Calgary roads is expected to increase as we come into the back-to-school season, so keep in mind playground zones are in effect everyday of the year from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Need to get rid of some junk around the house? The East Calgary landfill will be open Saturday, Sunday and Labour Day Monday. Check landfill locations and hours(external link) before heading out.

What's closed?

  • All city pools except the ones listed above.
  • All athletic parks, arenas and the Calgary Soccer Centre, except for advanced bookings.
  • Inglewood Bird Sanctuary's Nature Centre.
  • Animal Services Centre.
  • North Mount Pleasant and Wildflower arts centres.
  • City Hall and all administrative buildings.
