The Labour Day long weekend seems like the best chance to squeeze in the last fun of summer
The September long weekend is so close, you can almost feel it.
Whether you pitch a tent in your favourite provincial park or pump up your raft for a float down the Bow River, this seems like the weekend to squeeze in the last fun of summer. CBC Homestretch's Tracy Fuller has some great suggestions for long weekend entertainment.
Fiesta Filipino
Sam Milby, a Filipino-American actor, model, reality TV star and recording artist, is in Calgary for Fiesta Filipino this weekend! This marks the third year for this three-day celebration in Calgary. The festivities start Friday at noon in Olympic Plaza and run all Saturday, through to Sunday afternoon with bands, food, a singing competition, public zumba, kids activities and more.
Check out the website for all the details.
Calgary Highland Games
Whether you're a fan of the heavy sports or want to break out your kilt, this is the weekend to do it. The Calgary Highland Games are taking over Springbank Park on Saturday. On Sunday the Canmore Highland Games take over Centennial Park. Looking at the schedules, Saturday is mostly a celebration of the music and dance of the highlands with piping and drumming competitions. Sunday is all about the heavy sports: the dance competitions, a sheep dog demonstration, whiskey tasting and a tug-of-war. Sunday all ends with a traditional Ceilidh.
For more information, check out the website for the Springbank and Canmore events.
Shaw Charity Classic
It's already underway at Canyon Meadows Golf Course. Lots of big names in the running this year, from Rocco Mediate, to Nick Faldo, Fred Couples and VIjay Singh to name a few. It all wraps up on Sunday

Pride Parade
Pride Week wraps up on Monday, but not before Calgary's most colourful celebration takes over 6th Avenue. An estimated 60,000 spectators are expected along the parade route on Sunday, which starts outside Bow Valley College and ends at Prince's Island Park where Pride in the Park will be in full swing.
The parade starts rolling at noon, and wraps up at 2 p.m. Pride in the Park continues through 6 p.m.
Beyond the parade there are tons of pride events happening now through Monday.

Tour of Alberta
The Tour of Alberta is Canada's largest stage race. It's road cycling over four days, featuring 12 world-class teams, covering 546 kilometers. This year the tour starts in Jasper and races to the Marmot Basin Ski Area, then moves to Spruce Grove and spends the final two days of competition in Edmonton.
