July 1, 2017 marks 150 years since Confederation in Canada. CBC Books is creating the Great Canadian Reading List — a list of 150 books curated by you.
Social entrepreneur, G Adventures founder and past Canada Reads(external link) panellist Bruce Poon Tip adds Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat to the reading list.
"When I read Never Cry Wolf as a youth growing up in Calgary, it opened my mind to the wonders of Canada. An immigrant from Trinidad, my Canadian experience did not resemble the wild frontier that was so beautifully depicted by Farley Mowat. He was a free spirit and pioneer, and I was drawn to his mixture of irreverence and rebellion. To me, Never Cry Wolf is an unexpected love story about the misunderstood wolf; one that fundamentally changed the way people think about these complex creatures. Farley's story inspired the activist in me (a side I didn't even know I had) and it challenged me to dream about the remote landscapes of the country I now proudly call home."
Bruce Poon Tip founded G Adventures, the largest travel adventure company in the world, when he was 22 years old. He is the founder of Planeterra, a non-governmental organization that supports international communities through the tourism industry. He has spoken at TED conferences and at the United Nations. He is the author of the bestselling books Looptail: How One Company Changed the World by Reinventing Business and Do Big Small Things.
