RCMP officer and municipal police officer honoured
A Charlottetown police officer and an RCMP member from the Queens District were selected as police officers of the year by PEI Crime Stoppers.
Cst. Tim Keizer of the Charlottetown Police Services received the 2017 Municipal Police Officer of the Year award.
He was recognized for his ongoing and committed work with young people in schools and youth sports as well as his involvement in community initiatives and activities.
Traffic safety
Cst. Stephen Duggan of the Queens District office received the 2017 Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer of the Year.
He was recognized for his work in promoting highway safety throughout the province and, in particular, relating to impaired driving, distracted driving and seatbelt use.
Duggan's nomination cited his efforts in the education aspect of traffic safety and his passion in getting the message out to the public — in particular to younger drivers.
National Police Week
The awards were presented May 19 during National Police Week.
The nominations for the two awards were judged by a panel by a three person panel consisting of a retired RCMP officer, a retired Charlottetown Police Services officer and a member of the PEI Crime Stoppers board of directors.
Cst. Jonathan Kennedy of the Summerside Police Service was selected as runner up for the Municipal Police Officer of the Year and Cst. Kim Dudley of Queens District was the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer of the Year.
