City hall announced in a press release on Tuesday that the west leg of the Sherman Access will be reduced by one lane starting Apr. 1, for "the coming months." Additionally, the entire west leg is planned to close again during the summer for remediation work.
The west leg of the Sherman Access, going both directions, has already been closed for around 2 weeks, starting on Thursday, Mar. 16. The city says during this time, "workers identified safety concerns with the bin wall and guardrails adjacent to the roadway."
"As such," the release continues, "in the interest of public safety, the City of Hamilton will be reducing the west leg of the Sherman Access to one lane for a 250 metre stretch over the coming months. Concrete barriers and a temporary traffic signal will allow a single lane of traffic to pass up and down the escarpment access starting Saturday, April 1, 2017."
The city also notes that a planned closure of the whole west leg, both directions, will occur sometime in the summer, but the release does not provide more specifics.
"The City will monitor the traffic impacts and will make adjustments to reduce backlogs and optimize traffic signal timing throughout the duration of the closure."
