WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ever since President-elect Donald Trump began his campaign by calling millions of Mexican rapists and demanding that a giant wall be built to physically bar them from entering the country, as some sort of imposing nightmare structure previously to be found only in dystopian science-fiction novels, only one question has of course persisted: who's going to pay for the darn thing? :)

This not a time to bicker and argue about whether this insane, racist proposal will not only keep people out but also, hauntingly, probably keep people in.

This is a time to figure out how we gonna pay dem bills!

Oh, also: it won't work. It won't even work, that's not how people tend to enter the country.

So in this way, it's kind of like torture: it's wrong to do and it doesn't work. That's not even the important part – the important part is it's insane and wrong and shows that we need to re-evaluate the way we look at ourselves as humanity, and as countries, and as an international community, but if none of that does it for you, it also just doesn't really work.

But mainly, where the heck will the funds come from?

Clearly that's the only thing that matters. Now that this idea that is the stuff of your worst fears is completely normalized, let's get down to brass tacks, to dollars and cents: who will pay?

Will it be Donald Trump, the madman who invented the scenario whilst knowing barely anything about foreign policy, border control, Mexico, or, let's face it, the United States? Or Mexico, whose government has never said they would pay for it, and can't really be forced to pay for it, and whose very character is regularly attacked by Donald Trump?

It will be very interesting, finding out who pays for this wall. But one thing is certain: that's the part that matters!
