Park tentatively slated to open weekend before Christmas
The Brookvale Provincial Ski Park in Queens County, P.E.I., will celebrate its 50th anniversary during this season.
Assistant superintendent Erin Curley says the multi-use park and Island's only ski hill turns 50 on Jan. 28.
I'm excited from the minute I wake up and see a day like today. - Erin Curley, Brookvale Provincial Ski Park
"We're certainly going to celebrate with a big cake and some prizing and discounted rates," she said, adding that more details would be announced later.
Curley said much of the season is still in the planning stages, but that the year will include student nights, couple's nights and s'mores nights.
Upgraded lodge
The park is scheduled to open the weekend before Christmas, though that can change depending on the weather. Curley likes what she sees so far.
"I'm excited from the minute I wake up and see a day like today," she told CBC News after the Island received a little less than 15 centimetres on Monday.
"It seems to be starting earlier than it has for the past couple of years for sure," Curley said. "It seems like the snow is going to stick around, so we're very hopeful."
Curley said the park has no new additions this year, though the lodge has been upgraded, including a new accessible door at the main entrance.
The park had one of its busiest seasons ever last year, despite a mild winter.
