Band teacher says instruments break down like cars
A committee of P.E.I. music teachers will be recommending where $100,000 in funding for music education will be spent across the Island.
Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Doug Currie said the funding "will ensure that our talented music students and teachers continue to have high quality musical instruments."
Frank Nabuurs, a band teacher at East Wiltshire Intermediate School said his students are playing their instruments at least four hours a week.
"Band instruments are like cars, they break down and rust," said Nabuurs.
There are approximately 25 instrumental programs in schools across the province.
