A four year collective agreement has been reached by the University of Prince Edward Island and the University of Prince Edward Island Faculty Association (UPEIFA).
The agreement includes faculty members, librarians, sessional instructors, and clinical nursing instructors and covers a period from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2020.
The union and UPEI board of governors voted for ratification of the collective agreement.
The agreement includes a pay increase of two per cent each year and teaching workloads will be equitable and fair.
Also, by July 1, 2017, future retirees will begin to pay 45 per cent of the cost of supplemental health care benefits.
Both UPEI and the faculty association have agreed to create an ad hoc committee made up of faculty members, the university and student union representatives to review existing practices and more to enhance teaching and learning at UPEI.
Both UPEI's president, Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz and faculty association president, Dr. Nola Etkin said in a release they looked forward to working together to educate students at the university.
UPEI started negotiation process with all unions in February 2016.
