Department of Transportation asked to look into residents' concerns
Work to replace the York Bridge north of Charlottetown has been put on hold until residents concerns about the 20 kilometre detour and safety issues can be addressed.
The work on the bridge was scheduled to begin on Sept. 6 and was expected to take six to eight weeks. The current bridge dates from the 1950s.

A spokesperson for the premier says the Department of Transportation has been asked to look at the project after residents expressed their concerns at a community meeting earlier this week.
Many residents at the meeting expressed disappointment that they weren't consulted earlier on the plans for the bridge and the timing of the construction.
The premier's office says the community will be informed prior to any work starting.
