Surf warning covers all of North Shore beaches
Parks Canada issued a dangerous surf warning for P.E.I. National Park Tuesday morning.
Surf conditions are listed as dangerous from Greenwich to Cavendish.
Winds at St. Peters, near the Greenwich beach, were gusting over 50 km/h overnight, kicking up the waves. The wind is forecast to continue to gust up to 40 km/h through to the early afternoon.
Rip current danger
North Shore beaches on P.E.I. are prone to rip currents. These form when water pushed onshore by strong winds rushes back out to sea in narrow channels.
It is impossible to swim against a rip current. If you are caught in one, you should swim parallel to the shore until you are out of it, and then make your way back to the beach.
The best option is to stay out of the water when there is a danger of rip currents.
