'I'm glad he's safe,' says fire chief Jason Peters
A 58-year-old New Glasgow, P.E.I., man reported missing on Thursday has been located safely.
The man, who New Glasgow fire chief Jason Peters describes as "a good fellow," was last seen around noon. Shortly before 9 p.m., he was found and taken to hospital in Charlottetown to be evaluated around 9 p.m., Peters said.
"I know him personally, and I'm glad he's safe," he said.
RCMP dog services, about 20 New Glasgow Fire Department members, and around 35 to 40 Ground Search and Rescue personnel were all involved in the search, he said.
Health concern
Crews started searching by boat before a dog caught the man's scent, Peters said. There was some urgency to finding him because of a health concern, he said.
"There was a little issue there, and obviously finding him before dark was a big concern, too," Peters said.
'Glad it was over'
The people searching were primarily volunteers, arriving "in dribs and drabs when they come available," but made a full crew by the end of the day, he said.
The fire department would like to do some training with the search and rescue team, but hopefully no more searches, Peters said.
"Everyone was glad it was over," he said.
