Man charged after Kensington hit and run involving stolen vehicle

Accident happened minutes after car reported stolen

A 25-year-old man faces several charges after a hit and run involving a stolen car in Kensington, P.E.I., on Tuesday.
Kensington police say a man driving a red Kia struck another vehicle on Victoria Street near the Bell's Irving shortly after 5 p.m., then drove off.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit was able to provide a licence plate number and description, and an arrest was made.
The 25-year-old is charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent of the owner and failing to stop and remain at the scene of accident under the Criminal Code. He was also charged with one count of driving while suspended under the Highway Traffic Act.
The Kia, which was reported stolen just minutes before the accident, was recovered.
The man is scheduled to appear in court in September.
