Douglas said he couldn't hear the case as he has a family member who works with McMillan at Holland College.
McMillan was expected to make an appearance Thursday morning in P.E.I. provincial court. McMillan's lawyer appeared on his behalf, however, and just long enough for Douglas to recuse himself from the case.
McMillan is now scheduled to be in court Monday afternoon appearing before a new judge, Nancy Orr.
McMillan was charged with impaired driving in May, and earlier this month took a two-month leave of absence from his job and started counselling.
