The decision 'shows leadership and a renewed commitment'
The University of Prince Edward Island Student Union is applauding the commitment of the university's board of governors and faculty association to return to negotiations.
"The decision to return to the negotiating table shows leadership and a renewed commitment on the part of both parties to reach a new collective agreement," said Nathan Hood, UPEI Student Union president, in a press release Wednesday morning.
"The Student Union's priority has been to ensure that students do not miss a day of classes or work."
Collective agreement expires June 30
In addition to returning to negotiations, both parties agreed to drop all conciliation and legal action.
The sides have been bargaining toward a new collective agreement since February. The current agreement expires on June 30.
