The University of Prince Edward Island and the UPEI Faculty Association have agreed to go back to the negotiating table.
The two sides met on Tuesday, and agreed to resume their discussions.
They've also agreed that all legal action and concilation will be withdrawn.
The current collective agreement expires June 30. The two sides began bargaining for a new contract in February.
"The Faculty Association is very pleased to be returning to the negotiating table, and are committed to successfully reaching a fair and equitable agreement," said Nola Etkin, president of the UPEI Faculty Association, in a news release.
"This will allow students and Faculty Association Members to focus on what really matters — their research, teaching, and student learning."
UPEI president Alaa Abd-El-Aziz said he's confident both parties can reach an agreement that is fair for the faculty, staff, and for the University.
"I appreciate this positive step in moving forward with the negotiation process and that both sides have fully put students at the forefront of decisions," he said.
Talks between UPEI and several bargaining units will also resume in relation to pensions.
