Armed man shot and wounded 'to ensure public safety,' RCMP say in a statement
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an RCMP officer-involved shooting in Red Deer.
Police said the incident began around 7:15 p.m. Sunday when officers responded to a report of an armed man at a downtown apartment building.
"RCMP members attended the scene and located the armed man, who was subsequently shot by police in their efforts to ensure public safety," Mounties said in a release.
The man was wounded and taken to hospital for treatment.
No one else was injured.
ASIRT is looking into the incident.
