The Winnipeg Blue Bombers scored big with the 2015 Grey Cup even though they weren't in it.
The club announced Monday that it earned a profit of $7.1 million by hosting the CFL championship game in November, in which the Edmonton Eskimos beat the Ottawa Redblacks 26–20.
It's more than double the $3.2 million in profits the team made hosting the Grey Cup in 2006.
The Bombers have used $1.5 million of the 2015 profits to pay Triple B Stadium, which owns Investors Group Field, for improvements that were made ahead of the Grey Cup. The remaining $5.6 million will be used for the club's long-range financing.
The Bombers' first pre-season game of the 2016 season is June 8 against Montreal, and the first regular season game is June 24, also against the Alouettes.
