Calgary police continue to investigate the shooting, which happened in the 1300 block of First Street N.E. in Crescent Heights, around 1 a.m. MT.
Police do not believe it is a random incident but they are unsure of the motive and do not have a description of the suspect.
A neighbour, who was only identified as Jerry and lives a few houses away, said he didn't hear gunshots but looked out his window after hearing about the incident.
"I could see blood in the alley behind me. It looks pretty grave."
He says there have been problems like petty crime in the neighbourhood, but nothing this serious.
"This is new to me this kind of severity of crime."
Anyone who may have information is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
