Misener charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault, 1 count of careless use of firearm
Matthew Brian Misener, 30, of Pleasant Grove, P.E.I., has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of careless use of a firearm after two men were shot in that community early Christmas morning, say RCMP.
RCMP responded to a 911 call at 1 a.m. Friday morning and found two men, aged 23 and 28, with gunshot wounds.
One man was treated and released from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The other man was sent to Halifax with a single gunshot wound. He is in critical but stable condition Saturday morning, say police.
According to Cpl. Scott Stevenson, the police investigation has revealed the men may have known each other.
"At this point, the investigation is ongoing. There's other witnesses to be interviewed, other avenues to be followed up. If there's more information that comes out as a result of that, more charges could be laid," said Stevenson.
Misener will remain in custody until a show cause hearing Dec. 30 in provincial court in Charlottetown.
Stevenson told CBC News it is a "strange coincidence" that P.E.I.'s only alleged murder of the year also happened in the community of Pleasant Grove, north of Charlottetown.
Joel Clow, 46, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Traci Lynch in July. Clow has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His trial is set to begin May 24.
