Arrest made in Forest Lawn homicide, now confirmed as a shooting

Calgary police have arrested and charged a man with second-degree murder in connection to the homicide in Forest Lawn last week.
Police allege a 25-year-old from Gleichen, Alta., shot the victim, 34-year-old Jonathan Joe Schmeikal, to death.
Officers first responded to the 2600 block of 43rd Street S.E. shortly before 6 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2015 to check on the welfare of a man who was reported injured in the area.
Upon arrival, officers found Schmeikal already dead and an autopsy confirmed he was shot to death.
Police believe the shooting took place in the vicinity of where the victim was found.
