City of Winnipeg had hoped to finish $3M work at St. Vital Centennial Outdoor Pool last year
Swimmers in Winnipeg's St. Vital area will have to go elsewhere until next year, as renovations to the St. Vital Centennial Outdoor Pool won't be ready until then, according to the city councillor for the area.
St. Vital Coun. Brian Mayes told CBC News he had hoped work on the pool would be completed in time for opening on Labour Day, but now that won't happen until next spring.

Upgrades to the pool were originally supposed to be completed in 2014. The city approved $3 million in renovations to the outdoor facility in 2013.
This summer, it was revealed there were problems with the depth of the pool after some new safety regulations were put in place by the province.
Mayes said there are now problems with some electrical work, Manitoba Hydro has some concerns with natural gas installations, and there have been problems with concrete curing related to the pool bottom.
The councillor said he plans to meet with the city's chief administrative officer to find out what went wrong that caused such a delay. Mayes added that he hopes to offer free admission when the pool does open.
