Halifax Regional Police announced Sunday Jimmy Melvin Jr. has been officially charged in the 2009 shooting death of Terry Marriott Jr.
Marriott, 34, was fatally shot inside a Harrietsfield home in February 2009.
Supt. Jim Perrin, with the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division told reporters Melvin, 33, was arrested around 8 p.m. on Saturday after a traffic stop on the Bedford Highway.
Perrin said Melvin has been a suspect in the homicide for several years. Police received information he was also responsible for the attempted murder of Marriott back in 2008. The incident was not reported to police at the time.
In December 2012, the Nova Scotia Department of Justice announced a $150,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in a high-profile murder, but Perrin said the reward program didn't play a part in the case.
Melvin has been remanded to the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility and will appear in Halifax provincial court on Monday to face charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
