A former Nova Scotia man linked to a Mexican drug cartel and accused of breaching bail conditions in Alberta was arrested Friday morning in Oxford, N.S.
Arrest warrants were issued recently for the 34-year-old after he didn’t show up for an Edmonton court appearance on drugs and weapons charges.
Griffon, 34, was arrested in Edmonton in December during a police investigation into La Familia, an international gang that is trying to muscle into Alberta’s drug trade.
Griffon grew up in the New Glasgow area, but was working out west for several years. He still has family in Nova Scotia.
During a search of Griffon’s southeast Edmonton home in December, police say they found four kilograms of cocaine, 2.6 kilograms of MDMA, $30,000 in cash and two .22 rifles.
He was subsequently released on bail. However, a spokesman for the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams said Thursday that warrants had been issued for Griffon after he failed to show up for a recent court date and allegedly breached other bail conditions.
RCMP in Nova Scotia confirm they helped Edmonton Police make an arrest Friday morning in Oxford. The man remains in custody.
A police inspector with ALERT said they expect Griffon to be transported back to Edmonton.
