Community in shock after business owner was stabbed to death Wednesday night

Hundreds gathered at a northeast Calgary mosque Friday afternoon to remember a businessman who was robbed and fatally stabbed this week.
Maqsood Ahmed owned the Calgary Produce Market in the community of Castleridge. It also had a Western Union money transfer business inside.

He was leaving the store with a bag of money Wednesday night when he was attacked.
Ahmed later died from his injuries.
A funeral and prayers were held Friday afternoon.
Muhammed Farooq Khan, a longtime friend, says the whole community is still in shock over his death.
"We are immigrant here, and when we heard about the death, and the other things, even our children at home — they knew him — and wives they cried," he said. "He was very social with our community."

Suspects sought

Calgary police are looking for two men in their 20s:

  • Black male who is roughly five feet 10 inches tall with a lean muscular build and long hair. He was wearing dark clothing and white shoes.
  • Black male who is roughly six feet tall with a medium to heavy build and short hair. He was wearing a light coloured hoodie under a dark three quarter length leather jacket, dark pants and white shoes.
​​Calgary police are also looking for a vehicle they believe was used by the suspects. It is described as a dark coloured 1999 to 2003 two-door Toyota Solara.

Officers believe it was a planned and targeted attack.
