Firefighters searched the Elbow River on Tuesday to help Calgary police look for evidence. The search area is not far from the building where Elko's body was found on Holy Cross Lane S.W.
Police were called to the residential building on Sunday afternoon and found her dead. On Monday, a 24-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder.
Investigators believe the two were in a relationship and the homicide was related to their domestic situation.
Elko’s death is Calgary’s 26th homicide of the year.
