Optimistic 73-year-old worries she's going through mid-life crisis
OWEN SOUND, ON—Mildred Claiborne is going through some major changes in her life recently, though perhaps not the ones she thinks.
Lately, Claiborne has had the urge to go on vacation abroad, and tends to spend her weekends browsing new cars and furniture. And she's pretty sure she knows why.

"I'm just going through one of those mid-life crises you always hear about, it's fine!" she explained with her characteristically sunny grin.
"I'm a person who looks on the bright side as much as anyone," Claiborne continues, "but at a certain point it hits you, hey, I'm only going to live to 150 or so, and I'd better get moving and enjoy myself while I still can! When I'm 130 I don't know if I'm going to want to be out there zooming around, I'll probably want to relax a bit and enjoy my retirement."
Said her husband, Doug, "Uh, I mean… I love her, but… no, right?"
Mildred says that she is even thinking of getting her ears pierced and even maybe getting a tattoo — two things she never would have dreamed of doing as a younger person.
"It will be funny, I'm going to be at my kid's 80th birthday still embarrassing him. He'll be like, 'Mom, stop showing off your tattoos!'"
Said Doug, "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm."
At press time, Claiborne was thinking of booking up some hotels for the July 4th weekend in 2076 to celebrate the nation's tricentennial, and kept asking Doug what outfit he was planning to wear to it, so she could lay it out the night before.
