Auger-Aliassime bounced by Zverev in Vienna Open quarter-finals

Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open on Friday. 

Germany's Alexander Zverev triumphed over Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 for his 301st victory on the ATP Tour. 

"Didn't go my way today but with every loss comes an opportunity to get better," shared the 21-year-old Canadian on Twitter. 

"Time to regroup and get ready for Paris."

Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal fell to Germany's Alexander Zverev 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in quarter-final play at the Vienna Open.

The fourth-ranked Zverev will play Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in what will be the latter's first ATP 500 semifinal. Alcaraz ousted Italy's Matteo Berrettini, ranked seventh, 6-1, 6-7(2), 7-6(5). 

American qualifier Frances Tiafoe, who pulled off the win over Stefanos Tsitsipas on Thursday, continued his winning ways by beating Diego Schwartzman in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(6). The American will also be playing in his first ATP 500 semifinal match.

He'll take on either Casper Ruud of Norway or Jannik Sinner of Italy. 

Shapovalov defeated in St. Petersburg

Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov of Canada was beat in straight sets in the quarter-finals of the St. Petersburg Open. Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany cruised to a  6-4, 6-3 victory — a result that saw Shapovalov breaking his racket on the court in frustration. 

Struff has now won five of the seven past meetings with the Canadian.

The unseeded Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany upset No. 2 seed Denis Shapovalov of Richmond, Hill, Ont., 6-4, 6-3 in the quarter-finals of the St. Petersburg Open.

Defending champion Andrey Rublev was upset in straight sets by Dutch qualifier Botic Van De Zandschulp 6-3, 6-4. 

Van de Zandschulp, ranked 69th, beat the top-seeded Rublev in 1 hour, 33 minutes for his 16th win from his past 19 matches at all levels.

The 26-year-old Van de Zandschulp, who reached the U.S. Open quarter-finals last month, will play Marin Cilic in the semifinals. Cilic, who won the tournament in 2011, defeated third-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

American Taylor Fritz will play Struff in the other semifinal at the hard-court tournament.
