Pospisil's coach Frédéric Fontang says the Canadian is playing the 'best tennis of his career' as he prepares to take on Andy Murray in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon

Unseeded Canadian Vasek Pospisil rallied for a five-set victory over Viktor Troicki on Monday to reach the Wimbledon singles quarter-finals for the first time in his career.

Pospisil needed two hours 39 minutes to complete the 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 win over the No. 22 seed from Serbia.

The 25-year-old from Vancouver will next play Andy Murray of Britain. Murray defeated Croatia's Ivo Karlovic on Monday.

Pospisil, the world No. 56, had never previously been past the second round in singles play at the All England Club. His previous best singles showing at a Grand Slam event was a third-round appearance at the Australian Open (2014, 2015).

Pospisil had 12 aces and four breaks of serve from eight chances. He had a 58-51 edge in winners in the first career meeting between the pair.

The Canadian earned a break in the third set for a 5-4 lead and appeared to gain confidence after closing out the set and starting the fourth with another break.

He earned the victory on his second of three match points with a backhand flick volley. Pospisil and American partner Jack Sock — the defending men's doubles champions — were scheduled to play their third-round match later Monday.

Serena Williams defeats older sister Venus

20-time major champion Serena Williams beat older sister Venus 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals.

Both Serena and Venus are five-time champions at the All England Club, but Serena is on track for a true Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open and French Open this year.

With Madison Keys and CoCo Vandeweghe also winning Monday, it's the first time three American women have reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Serena, Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriati did it in 2004.

Novak Djokovic match suspended

Novak Djokovic will have to wait until Tuesday to see if he can reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

The defending champion's fourth-round match against Kevin Anderson on Monday was suspended because of darkness after the fourth set.

Anderson won the first two sets, but Djokovic took the third and fourth to make the score 6-7 (6), 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-4.

Roger Federer in familiar territory

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is back in the quarterfinals at the All England Club.

Federer beat 20th-seeded Roberta Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 on Centre Court, putting him in the quarter-finals at the grass-court major for the 13th time.

Federer, who lost in last year's final to Novak Djokovic, needs one more Wimbledon title to break the record he holds with Pete Sampras and 1880s player Willie Renshaw.

Richard Gasquet recovers to advance

Richard Gasquet is back in the Wimbledon quarter-finals after beating Nick Kyrgios.

The 21st-seeded Frenchman, who reached the semifinals at the All England Club in 2007, beat Kyrgios 7-5, 6-1, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (6) Monday on Court 2.

Kyrgios, a 26th-seeded Australian, reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals last year in his debut appearance.

Gasquet wasn't happy about wasting two match points against Nick Kyrgios, smashing his racket in anger after dropping the third set of their fourth-round match.

Gasquet was up 6-4 in the tiebreaker but the Australian saved both match points before converting his fourth set point to take the match to a fourth. The Frenchman then slammed his racket into the ground and once more against his chair, breaking the frame.

Victoria Azarenka moves on

Two-time Wimbledon semifinalist Victoria Azarenka is a win away from a third appearance in the last four.

The 23rd-seeded Azarenka advanced to the quarter-finals by beating 18-year-old Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-2, 6-3 Monday.

Azarenka, a two-time Australian Open champion from Belarus, has never reached the final at the All England Club. She'll have to get past five-time champion Serena Williams in the next round.
