Canadians Peter Polansky and Stephanie Dubois each pulled off upsets to advance in Australian Open qualifying Friday.

Polansky, from Thornhill, Ont., defeated 10th-seeded Dutchman Jesse Huta Galung 6-1, 7-6 (2) in men's second round play.

Dubois, from Laval, Que., beat No. 5 seed Anastasiya Yakimova of Belarus 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of women's singles.

Meanwhile, Heidi El Tabakh of Oakville, Ont., lost her first-round match 7-6 (4), 6-4 to Thailand's Noppawan Lertcheewakarn.

Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., and Milos Raonic of Thornhill had their second-round matches postponed.

Rain has caused major headaches at the qualifying tournament, cancelling all matches Thursday and delaying the start of Friday's competition.
