England striker Wayne Rooney has decided to see a psychiatrist to help him on the pitch for the World Cup, according to a report in The Guardian

Rooney said he will see Dr. Steve Peters, the Liverpool club psychiatrist, to help him deal with the pressures in Brazil.

He's responding to criticism, most notably from Paul Scholes, his former Manchester United teammate, who questioned whether Rooney should be an automatic pick in Roy Hodgson’s side.

Rooney was impressed by Peters’ speech to the England squad during their training camp at Vale do Lobo and has spoken to Steven Gerrard, Liverpool’s captain, about the benefits of working with a man who has helped many other top athletes.

A possible conversation between Rooney and Peters:

Peters: Let’s talk about Liverpool.

Rooney: Why?

P: Don’t you think they’re a good team?

R: I guess but what does that have to do with anything?

P: Don’t you think it’d be a good idea to not play against them next season?

R: What?

P: Because they’re so good you may as well just not put in the effort, right?

R: I don’t understand at all what you are talking abo—

P: Just follow the timepiece as it moves.

R: …Are you trying to hypnotize me?

P: You are getting sleepy…

R: I want my money back.

P: You will give me half of your sponsorship money.

R: (Leaves)

P: OK, a third.
