For every tear that Brazilians shed for their soccer team, a tweet was sent out about the game.

Germany’s (insert superlatives here) 7-1 victory over Brazil on Wednesday set a Twitter record for the most talked-about sporting event in the social media platform’s history.

Twitter said that 35.6 million tweets were sent out during the historic massacre, with the most coming right after Sami Khedira's goal put Germany up 5-0 in the first half, when a little over 580,000 tweets were sent out.
