Sebastian Giovinco wins MLS Golden Boot award as top goal-scorer
Broke single-season shots record with 181
Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco keeps adding to his list of accomplishments.
Major League Soccer announced on Sunday that the Giovinco has won the 2015 Golden Boot as its top goal-scorer, the first player in TFC history to win the award.
The 28-year-old Italian made 33 appearances this season and set a new league record by scoring 22 goals and adding 16 assists, breaking Chris Wondolowski's previous mark of 27 goals and seven assists in 2012.
Columbus Crew SC's Kei Kamara also scored 22 goals, but Giovinco earned the tiebreaker with his 16 assists.
The Atomic Ant became the first player in MLS history to record at least 20 goals and 10 assists in a single season and broke a 15-year-old league single-season record for shots with 181.
Giovinco registered five multi-goal games for Toronto FC, including two hat tricks, which ties him with Dwayne De Rosario for first on TFC's all-time multi-goal list. His seven game-winning goals also tie him for first with De Rosario on Toronto's all-time game-winning goal list.
Toronto went 11-2-2 in games that Giovinco found the back of the net.
Giovinco won back-to-back MLS player of the month awards for July and was named MLS player of the week three times (Weeks 13, 14, 19).
