Two dramatic goals in stoppage time from Chinonso Offor and Romell Quioto saw Montreal pick up its first points of the Major League Soccer season in a back-and-forth 3-2 win over Philadelphia Union on Saturday night at Olympic Stadium.

Quioto scored a brace and Offor added another in Montreal's (1-3-0) home opener, while Mikael Uhre scored a brace for Philadelphia (2-2-0).

Montreal pressing early paid off and they won the ball high up the pitch multiple times. Less than two minutes in the aggressive pressure paid dividends as Lassi Lappalainen laid the ball off for Mathieu Choiniere whose shot was blocked by a handball. It was on Quioto to convert the penalty and did so by smashing the ball into the top left corner.

Following the goal, Philadelphia looked for an equalizer and began pushing further up field. While Montreal spent large spans of the first half on the defensive, the enjoyed two more golden opportunities through Mason Toye and Quioto.

Toward the end of the first half, the Union began asking questions of Montreal keeper Jonathan Sirois with shots from every angle. The youngster turned them all away, much to the delight of the crowd and preserving the lead going into halftime.

However, Philadelphia would strike back as quickly as Montreal opened the scoring. Daniel Gazdag intercepted a pass at the top of the Montreal penalty area and found Uhre, who made no mistake and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

As Montreal began to reassert itself, it was the squad's turn to suffer at the hands of the counterattack. Gazdag once again picked out Urhe, playing him through on goal and giving Philadelphia the lead at the hour mark.

Montreal was then let back into the game when Julian Carranza was given his second yellow card for a late challenge on Joel Waterman.

This was the spark Montreal needed as Offor scored an equalizer that was initially allowed, but then called offside by VAR, only for the goal to be permitted following a second VAR consultation.

With the Montreal crowd in raptures, the home side pushed for a winner, which they got when Quioto got on the end of a Mathieu Choiniere cross, delivering the dramatic win.

Philadelphia will return home to host Orlando City SC on March 25 while Montreal will use the week off to recover before travelling to BC Place and a match against the Vancouver Whitecaps on April 1.

Toronto FC takes down Inter Miami

Second-half goals by Canadians Jonathan Osorio and Mark-Anthony Kaye helped Toronto FC find the win column for the first time this Major League Soccer season with a 2-0 victory over Inter Miami on a frigid Saturday night.

The temperature at kickoff at BMO Field was an unwelcome -4 Celsius, feeling like -13 C at the lakefront stadium. In comparison, it was 28 C (feeling like 30 C) at Inter Miami's Fort Lauderdale home.

The chilly conditions did not deter Toronto centre backs Matt Hedges and Sigurd Rosted from wearing short-sleeved jerseys.

Toronto came into the contest winless in its last nine league games (0-6-3) dating back to Aug. 27 (2-0 at Charlotte FC). Its last home win was Aug. 13 (3-1 over Portland).

Saturday's game saw father-and-son combinations on both teams.

Harvey Neville, the 20-year-old son of Miami coach Phil Neville, lined up at right fullback in his first MLS start. Captain Michael Bradley, the 35-year-old son of Toronto coach Bob Bradley, made his 295th appearance for TFC in all competitions.

Whitecaps, Galaxy play to draw

Kelvin Leerdam scored in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time to help the host Los Angeles Galaxy earn a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.

Leerdam's goal was unassisted for the Galaxy (0-1-2) and came after Tristan Blackmon took a pass from Julian Gressel and scored in the 14th minute to give the Whitecaps (0-2-2) an early lead.

The Galaxy fall to 4-4-3 in their last 11 home matches against Vancouver. LA beat Vancouver seven straight times from 2011-14. The Galaxy came into the match with a 4-0-3 record in their last seven matches at home dating to last season. The loss ends the Galaxy's longest unbeaten run at home since a nine-match streak in 2018.

Vancouver snaps a streak of four straight losses on the road. The Whitecaps are 0-5-5 in their last 10 matches away from home. They have just four road wins since the 2021 season. That ties them with Houston and Toronto for fewest in the league.

LA outshot Vancouver 20-12 with a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Jonathan Bond totaled two saves for the Galaxy. Yohei Takaoka stopped four shots for the Whitecaps.
