Euro 2016: Late goal lifts Italy over Sweden
Italians clinch berth into round of 16
Eder's late goal gave Italy a 1-0 win over Sweden on Friday at the European Championship in France, and a spot in the round of 16.
The Brazilian-born striker curled the ball into the bottom right corner in the 88th minute after substitute Simone Zaza headed on a long throw-in from Giorgio Chiellini.
"It was a great goal," Eder said. "It reminds me of my first goal for Italy. It was in the qualifying stages against Bulgaria. I dummied and the ball went in and I'm delighted.
"The small details make a big difference. The fact that that goal came from a throw-in makes me even more pleased."
Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was once again kept quiet. Whenever Ibrahimovic had the ball in the middle, Italian defenders swarmed around him. The striker did have a chance in the first half but he headed a free kick wide of the near post.
The Italians opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over Belgium. Now with six points, Italy is assured of a spot in the next round no matter what happens in the team's final Group E match against Ireland on Wednesday in Lille.
Sweden has one point and will next face Belgium.
The close marking of Ibrahimovic freed up space on the left for Martin Olsson, and the fullback went close with a shot that sailed over the bar.
Ibrahimovic also managed to shoot over the bar from near the goal line, but the offside flag was up.
Italy had few chances throughout the match, although it had threatened minutes before Eder's goal when Marco Parolo headed Emanuele Giaccherini's cross off the crossbar.
Before the Group E match, Sweden coach Erik Hamren promised a brighter start compared to the Ireland game and his players didn't let him down. Ibrahimovic had an early chance when Kim Kallstrom whipped in a dangerous cross from the left, but Chiellini made a headed clearance.
Spain advances with win over Turkey
Alvaro Morata scored twice as Spain easily defeated Turkey 3-0 to advance to the round of 16.
The result leaves Spain atop Group D with six points from two matches, two points ahead of Croatia, which conceded two late goals in a 2-2 draw against the Czech Republic earlier Friday.
Morata put the defending champions ahead with a header in the 34th minute after a cross by Manuel "Nolito" Agudo, who added to the lead three minutes later from close-range after a pass by Cesc Fabregas was deflected by Turkey defender Mehmet Topal.
Morata scored his second goal in the 48th after a short pass by Jordi Alba, who broke into the area unmarked after a perfect through ball by Andres Iniesta.
Czech Republic saves draw in stoppage time
Czech Republic came back from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw with Croatia in a game that was marred by a temporary suspension when flares were thrown onto the pitch.
Substitute Tomas Necid scored the equalizer from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time after Domagoj Vida was penalized for a handball.
Goals from Ivan Perisic and Ivan Rakitic had given Croatia a well-deserved 2-0 lead before Milan Skoda ensured a nervy finish when he pulled one back in the 76th minute with a powerful header from Tomas Rosicky's perfectly judged cross.

The game was then delayed when flares were thrown onto the pitch from the Croatian fans end. Ivan Rakitic and Croatia captain Darijo Snra were among the Croatian players signalling to the team's fans to calm down. Croatia is potentially facing a big fine from UEFA over the delay.
Croatia dominated for most of the game and deservedly went ahead when Perisic opened the scoring in the 37th minute after shooting past Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Cech with a low angled shot into the corner.
After beating the offside trap, Rakitic made it 2-0 in the 59th with a chip over Cech. Rakitic celebrated his goal by embracing Srna, who returned to France this week after attending his father's funeral.
Croatia leads Group D with four points, three more than the Czech Republic. Spain takes on Turkey in the group's other match Friday.
