Canadian women win 3 straight games to open Kitakyushu 7s
Canucks earned victories over England, Spain and U.S.
he Canadian women's rugby sevens team posted three victories Saturday to advance to the Kitakyushu Sevens Cup quarter-finals.
Canada opened Pool C play at Mikuni World Stadium Kitakyushu with a 29-12 win over England. That was followed by a 43-5 rout of Spain and a 29-12 victory over the United States.
"Over the year we are looking to put in six good games and to build on Day 1 like that is a big positive going into the quarter-finals," said Canadian captain Ghislaine Landry. "We have such dynamic athletes right now and to be able to switch up lineups like that, people can't prepare for that kind of thing so it's definitely an asset."

Canada will play Russia in the Cup quarter-finals.
"We will need to stay connected on defence better again on Day 2 against teams like Russia if we are to have a chance at the cup," said head coach John Tait. "They are the fastest team and if you get disjointed in defence they can score from anywhere.
"On attack we need to make the ball and defence move around, when we do that and find the speedsters we have like Bianca [Farella], Ghislaine, Charity [Williams] and Julia [Greenshields], then we can be a really tough draw for anyone."
It's the first time that an HSBC world rugby women's sevens series event has been held in Japan.
