Canadians continue road para-cycling success

Marie-Eve Croteau continued Canada's Paralympic road cycling success with a fourth-place result on Friday in the women's T1-2 road race. 

This result comes only months after the Québec City native believed her chances of competing in Rio were over. In July, Croteau had two of her custom-made bicycles stolen. 

Ultimately, the 37-year-old made it to her first Paralympic Games after an outpouring of online support and offers of financial help. She qualified for the 2012 London Games, but was unable to compete due to a concussion. 

She finished Friday's 30-kilometre race in a time of one hour 8:42 minutes, which was just 0.51 seconds off the gold-medal pace set by Australia's Carol Cooke. American Jill Walsh earned silver and Germany's Jana Majunka rounded out the podium. 

Canadian Shelley Gautier, who won bronze earlier in the week, was sixth. On the men's side, three-time Rio medallist Tristen Chernove finished 15th. 

Routliffe misses podium in pool

Canadian swimmer Tess Routliffe finishes sixth in women's 100-metre freestyle S7 on Friday. 

Zack McAllister finished eighth in the men's 50 freestyle S8 final while Morgan Bird placed seventh in the women's event.
