The Canadian Olympic Committee and Table Tennis Canada announced on Tuesday the six athletes chosen to play for Team Canada at the Pan Am Games.

Both the men's and women's sides will feature a blend of youth and experience.

Olympian Eugene Wang of Ottawa will lead the men's team, along with Pierre-Luc Thériault of Saint-Fabien, Que., and Marko Medjugorac of Sherbooke, Que.

Mo Zhang, a two-time Pan Am Games medallist and reigning singles champion from Chilliwack, B.C., provides experience, with Mississauga's Anqi Luo and Alicia Côté of Drummondvill, Que., rounding out the women's team.

According to Table Tennis Canada, the selection discussion focused on the athletes who provide the best opportunity to win medals in both the doubles and singles competitions.

Junya Chen will coach the women and Maxime Surprenant will coach the men's side.

Competition takes place at the Atos Markham Pan Am/Parapan Am Centre from July 19–25.

Not sure what to expect from this event? Perhaps this rally, dubbed the "point of the century," will provide a glimpse into the entertainment value of table tennis.
