Meaghan Benfeito, Roseline Filion, Canadian divers, golden in 10m

Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion added to Canada's medal haul, winning gold on Monday in women's synchronized 10-metre platform at the Pan American Games.

Montreal's Benfeito and Filion, from Laval, Que., earned 316.89 points to beat Brazil (291.36) and Mexico (287.91).

It is the Canadian pair's second medals of the Games. Filion won silver and Benfeito took bronze in the women's 10-metre event on Sunday.

"This competition today doesn't really reflect all the work we did this week," said Filion. "We'll have to adjust a couple of things technically, but it was an important competition for us because we wanted to live a different kind of stress — dive in front of our friends and family — and prepare for the world championships in Kazan."

Filion said the gold helped make up for her second-place finish in the individual event.

"This medal has a lot of value to us not only because we put a lot of work in this, but because it's a little balm on my wound of two days ago," she said. "These are the Pan Am Games, that's the title that we were missing, so it's really great."

Silver for Gagne, Imbeau-Dulac

In the men's three-metre synchro final, Philippe Gagne and Francois Imbeau-Dulac finished second with 413.37 points. Mexico's Jahir Ocampo and Rommel Pacheco won the gold with 438.27.

"Today, we told ourselves that we would have fun diving, and that's what we did," said Gagne. "Our six dives were very consistent throughout the competition, and that's why we ended up second."

He said the result gives them a lot of confidence heading into the world championships.

"However, to catch up the Mexicans, we will need to improve the difficulty of our dive set — we're actually working on the reverse 3 1/2 somersault — because their list is really difficult," he said.
