Andrew Wiggins says he'll play for Canada's basketball team
Minnesota Timberwolves rookie hinted he'll play in August Olympic qualifier
Andrew Wiggins says he wants to play for Team Canada, but he didn't say if that includes the Pan Am Games in his hometown.
Speaking to reporters after Wednesday's shootaround, the Minnesota Timberwolves forward said he'll play for Team Canada in August. The FIBA Americas Olympic qualifying tournament is Aug. 25 to Sept. 6 in Mexico.
While Wiggins spoke specifically about putting the Canadian jersey on in August, he said nothing about July. The Toronto Pan Am Games are July 10 to July 26.
After a stellar opening campaign, Wiggins is the odds-on favourite to win NBA rookie of the year.
His Minnesota Timberwolves teammate, Anthony Bennett, has already said he'll suit up for Canada at the Pan Ams.
A spokesperson for Canada Basketball said no offical announcement on the Pan Am team will be made until June 26.
