Weirdest Pan Am story of the day: 3 ties for medals

It's not often you see a tie for a medal at the Pan Am Games, but it happened three times in the same day on Tuesday.

When Mark de Jonge and Pierre-Luc Poulin stood on the podium for the Pan Am men's K-2 200-metre race on Tuesday, they may have found the bronze-medal step a little crowded. The Canadian kayakers had to share it with the Brazilian team after finishing in a rare tie for third.

Splitting medals is unusual, but it happened three times on Day 4.

In both other instances, there were no silver medals handed out as the competitions ended in ties for gold.

In the men's coxless pairs rowing event, Felipe Leal and Oscar Vasquez of Chile and Diego Lopez and Axel Haack of Argentina both crossed the finish line in 6:27.77.

The top of the podium again held twice the normal number of athletes after a tie for first in the men's pommel horse. Gymnasts Jossimar Calvo Moreno of Colombia and Marvin Kimble of the United States both scored 15.025 to split the gold.
