Heather McLean adds 2 more speed skating titles in Calgary

Heather McLean of Winnipeg won the 500-metre and 1,000-metre events Tuesday at the Canadian single distance long track championships.

Alex Boisvert-Lacroix of Sherbrooke, Que., dominated the 500-metre field on the men's side while Vincent de Haitre of Cumberland, Ont., took the 1,000.

In the second 500 event of the competition, McLean repeated her performance from the day before by winning the gold with a new personal best time of 37.34 seconds. Kaylin Irvine of Calgary was second and Olympian Shannon Rempel of Winnipeg finished third.

"The personal best is definitely what I am most happy with, and it's a step in the right direction," McLean said.

McLean won the 1,000 with a personal best 1:15.63. Regina's Kali Christ took second spot, followed by Irvine.

Boisvert-Lacroix won his second 500 race of the competition with a time of 34.52 to finish first in the final cumulative 500 results. Gilmore Junio of Calgary and Laurent Dubreuil of Levis, Que., were second and third, respectively.

De Haitre won the 1,000 men's race with a time of 1:07.92, ahead of Alexandre St-Jean and Boisvert-Lacroix.
