Canada's Guillaume Bastille wins short-track bronze in China

Canadian speed skater Guillaume Bastille stepped on the podium for the second time this season after winning bronze in the 1,500-metre race at the Samsung ISU World Cup Shanghai, China.

Bastille, of Rivière-du-Loup, Que., finished with a time of 2:19.592, less than three seconds behind leader Victor An of Russia (2:17.736). South Korean Noh Jin-kyu clocked 2:18.043 to take the silver medal.

"The final went well. I had a good start," said Bastille. "I was well positioned and everything. But at the end there was a little contact and quite a few skaters fell. I was one of those to get up quickly. There were also disqualifications, so it was a somewhat amazing final. But I still managed to finish third with all that happened."

Michael Gilday of Yellowknife finished fifth, stopping the clock at 2:55.224.

In the women's 1,500-metre event, Canada's Marie-Eve Drolet took the fifth place with a time of 2:20.080. Korean Suk Hee Shim won gold medal in 2:19.463, followed by China's Jianrou Li (2:19.465), and Ha-Ri Cho of Korea (2:19.468).
