Canada's Elizabeth Hosking takes halfpipe silver at snowboard worlds

Canada's Elizabeth Hosking will bring home a silver medal from the snowboard world championships in Bakuriani, Georgia.

Native of Longueuil, Que. had scored silver last month at Calgary World Cup event

Canada's Elizabeth Hosking will bring home a silver medal from the snowboard world championships in Bakuriani, Georgia.

The 21-year-old halfpipe specialist from Longueuil, Que., tallied a score of 88.50 on Friday to finish in second place and become the first Canadian woman to secure a podium finish in the halfpipe competition and the first Canadian overall since Jeff Batchelor earned silver in 2009

Hosking posted the biggest top-to-bottom amplitude in the women's final, beginning her run with a backside 540 Weddle grab and finishing with an alley-oop frontside 540 frontside grab.

Her moves also included a frontside 720 and a corked frontside 540 frontside grab.

The Longueuil, Que. native picked up her first career world championship medal, landing the podium in Bakuriani.

China's Cai Xuetong won gold with a leading score of 90.50 to clinch the third World Championships gold medal of her career.

Mitsuki Ono of Japan, the top qualifier from Wednesday, took the bronze with an 83.00.

Fellow Canadian Brooke D'Hondt finished 10th with a score of 61.25.
