Rostelecom Cup: Weaver, Poje in 1st after ice dance short program

Canadian pair Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje are holding the top spot after the ice dance short program at the Rostelecom Cup, a Grand Prix of Figure Skating event taking place in Moscow.

Canadian pair Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje are in first place after the ice dance short program at the Rostelecom Cup, a Grand Prix of Figure Skating event taking place in Moscow.

Friday's performance earned the duo a season-best score of 69.49, followed by Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte of Italy with 67.82. points, while Russian's Viktoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsapalov sit in third with a score of 63.63.


In the ladies event, Canadian Alaine Chartrand is in medal contention after finishing second with a personal best 67.38. However, she is over four points behind Russia's Elena Radionova (71.79), and less than one point in front of Evgenia Medvedeva of Russia (67.03).


Also on Friday, Nam Nguyen of Canada earned a score of 70.78 and is in seventh place after the men's short program. 


Adian Pitkeev of Russia (87.54 points) Spain's Javier Fernandez (86.99), and  Ross Miner of the U.S. (85.36.) are holding down the top three spots, respectively. 

Two Canadian tandems are at the bottom of the standings after the pairs short program, with Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro in seventh and Hayleigh Bell and Rudi Sweigers in eighth.
