Canadian pairs world champions, past and present

Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford may be the first Canadian pair to win back-to-back world titles since 1960 but there have been some pretty impressive teams along the way. Take a look at some of the best Canadian pairs teams of all time.

Duhamel & Radford not the only Canadian pairs world champs

Maria and Otto Jelinek, Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler, Jamie Salé and David Pelletier, Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini, and Barbara Wagner and Robert Paul are all of the Canadian world figure skating champions since 1960 (left-right).

On Saturday, Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford accomplished something that no Canadian pair has done in the figure skating world since 1960; won back-to-back world championships.

Duhamel and Radford were second after the short program but, with a near flawless free skate, the duo etched their names into the history books. In honour of the exceptional week in Boston, take a look at some of the all-time best Canadian world champion pairs teams.

Barbara Wagner and Robert Paul

These two were the last Canadian pair to win consecutive world titles and they did it back-to-back-to-back-to-back. That's right, four times in a row!

Maria and Otto Jelinek

The brother and sister team became the main story at the 1962 world championships, returning to Prague for the first time since their parents had fled to Canada. Skip ahead to 0:31 for their performance.

Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini

They were in the same position as Duhamel and Radford after the short at worlds in 1984. Sitting second, Underhill and Martini needed a near-perfect performance in front of a home crowd – and they did not disappoint.

Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler

Who could forget the death-defying tricks of this unlikely duo? The pair had earned two silvers and a bronze at the previous worlds, but were finally triumphant in 1993.

Jamie Salé and David Pelletier

These two are most often remembered for the medal scandal that rocked the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. They were eventually awarded the Olympic gold just one year after becoming world champions.

In case you missed it, here's Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford giving us all the feels as they perform to Adele's Hometown Glory before officially becoming two-time world champions.
