World men's curling championship: Italy knows all about 6-enders

Italy scored a six-ender on Sunday morning, and then had the rare feat come back to haunt them against the U.S. team Monday night at the world men's curling championship in Halifax.

Italy has experienced some extreme ups and downs at the world men's curling championship taking place in Halifax.

In the third draw on Sunday morning, they scored six points in the ninth end, calmly shook hands with a dejected Sweden side, and walked away with an impressive 11-5 victory.

Then on Monday night, they got a taste of their own medicine when Team USA jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first end. This time, Italy was on the other side of the handshake, conceding an 8-2 defeat after the sixth frame.

While eight is actually the maximum number of points possible to score in an end, six is rare enough to cause excitement and, for example, carries far more devastation than a four-point play in basketball or a grand slam home run in baseball.

Italy now has two wins and three concessions so far in the tournament.
